Renewed 2020-21 Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer Program (P-EBT) Information

The Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) Program was originally created through the Families First Coronavirus Response Act to help families feed their children during the spring of 2020 when schools initially closed. Recent federal legislation has reauthorized the program to cover all of the 2020-21 school year.

As a result, P-EBT will once again be available to help families cover the cost of breakfasts and lunches their children would have been eligible to receive for free, or at a reduced price, through the National School Lunch Program. Benefits will be issued for students who attended school virtually or, at a lesser rate, those who attended a blended educational model.

There is no application for P-EBT. Your child is eligible for P-EBT if they have an approved free or reduced status from a Household Application, are directly certified, or are enrolled in a CEP school. The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services will work with schools to get the necessary information to determine which students are eligible.

Pennsylvania families can apply for the National School Lunch Program online at www.compass.state.pa.us/, or by downloading the form below, completing it, and returning it to the district at the address listed on the form. Families who have seen their financial situations change due to the pandemic are encouraged to submit an application immediately. In addition to providing assistance, approved applications can help the district receive additional federal funds for student programs.

If your child does not fall into any of these categories, they DO NOT qualify for P-EBT. Children that are homeschooled, attend a cyber charter school, or are enrolled in a school that does not participate in the NSLP are not eligible for P-EBT. 

Pennsylvania will distribute benefits to eligible families in three phases, as follows:

  • Late April/early May to the families of children eligible for P-EBT during the period of September 1, 2020, through November 30, 2020.
  • Early June for the period of December 1, 2020, to February 28, 2021, and
  • Mid-July for the period of March 1, 2021, through May 31, 2021.

Families that receive SNAP or TANF should have already had their benefits issued to their EBT card.
