Automotive Technology

The Automotive Technology course of study provides students with specialized classroom and shop training including the use of technical and service manuals and the State Inspection Code.

  • The students will gain on-the-job training experience in computerized diagnosis and maintenance and repair of the automobile and its various components.

  • Students will use a variety of tools in their work such as: pneumatic wrenches to remove bolts, welding and flame-cutting equipment to remove and repair exhaust systems, and jacks and hoists to lift cars and engines.  Computer applications, including record keeping, are stressed throughout the course of study.

  • Students in this course of study who have reached the age of 18 are eligible to take the PA Department of Transportation Auto Inspection Examination to further their automotive training.  Students will be eligible to take ASE tests (National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence) in their chosen specialty areas in the spring of their senior year.

  • Graduates of Automotive Technology often pursue post-secondary associate degree programs.

  • Professional attitudes will be developed through the school’s Skills USA organization and class activities.
