Building Construction Occupations

The Building Construction Occupations course of study/program is designed to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for entry-level employment or further training in the construction field.

  • Students will learn to operate hand and power tools safely, to interpret blueprints, and to prepare a cost estimate. Basic skills are developed in the areas of carpentry, masonry, electrical wiring, plumbing and painting. Building projects are supervised by the instructor throughout the year.

  • Graduates of the Building Construction Occupations course of study/program often pursue post-secondary associate degree programs. Advanced placement is possible for Tech Prep students through Penn College of Technology (Williamsport, PA).

  • Professional attitudes will be developed through the Skills USA organization and related activities.

The Building Construction Occupations program is designed to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to for entry-level employment or further training in the construction field. 

Students learn to operate hand and power tools safely, read blueprints, and to prepare a cost estimate.  Basic skills are developed in the areas of carpentry, masonry, electrical, plumbing, and painting.  Students experience instruction in these skills during each year of the three-year program.   The instructor, who provides hands-on instruction throughout the year, supervises building projects. Senior students scoring advanced on the NOTCI exam receive a certificate of advanced credit and college credit.  Scholarships are also available through SkillsUSA.

Graduates of the Building Construction Occupations program often pursue post-secondary associate degree programs in various trade schools in PA and NY. Graduates may also directly enter apprentice programs or the workforce within the building trades industry. Some have also entered Construction Battalions in the military.

Professional attitudes, aptitudes, and skills will be developed through SkillsUSA and class activities.
