Protective Services

Protective Services is a three-year academic instructional program where students will receive training/information in the judicial system, equipment operations, emergency assessment, and emergency treatment, and will also have an opportunity to understand the importance of wellness and fitness.

  • Students are able to achieve certifications in CPR, AED, First Aid, Telecommunications, and Basic EMT. It is a goal of the Protective Services Program to develop professional attitudes, values, and confidence necessary to perform entry level duties within the justice or private security system.

Protective Services is a three-year course of study focusing on Police, Fire, EMS, and Corrections. This program is ideal for students planning on going into any of the public safety fields. This program could possibly open pathways for your future. Students get multiple career specific certifications that can be used when applying for a career. Students can also earn college credit through the program.  Students will need dedication, determination, and a drive to help others. Here is a brief overview of what is covered.

Criminal Justice – Students will learn its history, including parts of the US Constitution, the court system, major court rulings, corrections (adult & juvenile), and PA criminal procedure. Student will participate in Warren County Juvenile Youth Court system. Youth Court is for 1st time offenders of summary offenses as an alternative punishment. The students of Protective Services are the prosecution, defense, jurors, and support staff.

Law Enforcement (LE) – Student will learn several areas within LE. This includes patrol duties, private security, homeland security, and communication. Students will research careers within those fields and their history. Students will be certified in the use of restraints and non-lethal defensive tactics. Required skills include the use of the PA motor vehicle code, conducting a traffic stop, processing a crime scene, building searches, and recognizing mental health situations.

Firefighting – This program is a pre-course to the PA Essentials of Firefighting. Students will learn the history of the fire service, understand the changing rolls of the fire service, and demonstrate various tasks of a firefighter. These tasks include the use of structural fire gear, portable fire extinguishers, fire suppression equipment, self-contained breathing apparatus, and maintenance of equipment. Students will also be exposed to national wildland firefighting techniques as a prep for entry as a wildland firefighter. Students can obtain certifications in National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 700, and 800, and Center for Domestic Preparedness Hazmat Awareness.

Emergency Medical – Students will learn how to assess, treat, and extricate various patients during medical and traumatic emergencies. Obtainable certifications include CPR, AED, 1st Aid, and Wilderness 1st Aid. Required skills include patient assessment, airway management, and care of a patient in cardiac arrest. This course will prep students to enroll in a college level EMS course for national certification.

2020-2021 Activities of the Program

  • Build an emergency preplan for special district events (honor flight, large event parking)

  • Patrols of exterior doors

  • Vehicle/Apparatus checks

  • Assist with COVID Compliant Fire Drills at WCCC

  • Shop fire extinguisher lessons & demonstrations
