For those who are unaware, there are a number of wildfires currently burning in Quebec, Canada. The smoke from those fires is drifting south to the United States, causing hazy skies and a decline in air quality. Since wildfire smoke may pose health concerns to certain populations, the Warren County School District is following the recommendations based on air quality data provided by AirNow, the official U.S. Air Quality Index (AQI). The AQI is a color-coded index designed to communicate whether air quality is healthy or unhealthy for you and recommend steps to protect your health. You may visit AirNow at www.AirNow.gov, enter your zip code, to see what the AQI value is. The district and its schools will be following the recommendations based on the AQI through the remainder of the school year. Be aware that conditions may be different in different parts of the county.

Without knowing if the threat is or will be contained by the end of school, we are planning for a dismissal completely by parent pick up. We are not comfortable allowing students to walk home or to walk from the bus to their homes. Buses will not be transporting students home from Youngsville Elementary School or Youngsville Middle High School today. Students will be dismissed to parents or emergency contacts with photo identification. All students will need to physically be signed out. An additional post addressing different after school activities will follow.
