Weekly Math Fun: Fraction Fun with Pizza! 🍕➗
This week, turn pizza night into a hands-on fraction lesson the whole family can enjoy! Using real-life food makes math more engaging and helps kids visualize fractions in action.
Math Skills in Pizza:
🔢 Counting & Partitioning – Recognizing how a whole pizza is divided into equal slices builds fraction understanding.
🟰 Equivalent Fractions – Exploring different cuts (halves, fourths, eighths) reinforces relationships between fractions.
➗ Fair Sharing & Division – Splitting slices evenly introduces division with fractions in a meaningful way.
🤔 Problem-Solving – Asking “What happens if we change the number of slices?” encourages critical thinking.
Try challenging your child to compare fractions, predict how much is left after eating slices, or find new ways to divide the pizza!
Stay tuned for next week's post, where we’ll explore another fun way to bring math into everyday moments! 🍽️📏✨

Weekly Math Fun: Exploring Math Through Music! 🎶➕🎵
This week, combine music and math for a fun, hands-on learning experience! Rhythm and patterns in music naturally reinforce counting, sequencing, and fractions, making math more engaging and memorable.
Math Skills in Music:
🥁 Counting & Skip Counting – Clapping or tapping along to a beat strengthens number sense and multiplication fluency.🎼 Fractions in Music – Whole, half, and quarter notes provide a real-world way to explore fractions and division.🔁 Patterns & Sequences – Repeating rhythms help kids understand predictable sequences and mathematical structures.🎤 Creative Expression – Making up songs or rhythms adds a fun, interactive way to practice math facts.
No instruments needed—just clap, stomp, or tap along! Stay tuned for next week’s post, where we’ll bring math into another exciting hands-on activity! 🎶✨📐

It has come to our attention that a student in the district has a confirmed case of pertussis (whooping cough).
Pertussis is a highly contagious disease that is spread through the air when an infected person sneezes or coughs. Pertussis begins with cold symptoms and a cough which becomes much worse over 1-2 weeks. Symptoms usually include a long series of coughs (“coughing fits”) followed by a whooping noise. The cough is often worse at night and cough medicines usually do not help alleviate the cough.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health strongly recommends anyone with symptoms promptly contact your child’s doctor. Please refer to the link provided on our website for more information on pertussis.

Weekly Math Fun: Scavenger Hunt Math! 🔍✨
This week, make math active with a Scavenger Hunt Math Game! Instead of solving problems on paper, kids will search for objects around the house to model math equations.
Math Skills in Action:
Multiplication & Division – Finding and grouping objects reinforces the connection between repeated addition, equal groups, and division as sharing.
Problem-Solving – There’s more than one way to represent a number! Encourage kids to find different combinations that match the same equation.
Pattern Recognition – Seeing numbers arranged in sets helps build an understanding of arrays and factors.
Mental Math – Quickly determining how many objects are needed strengthens number sense and estimation skills.
Try using this game to practice skip counting, fractions (e.g., finding half of a total), or even measurement by collecting objects of different lengths or weights!
Stay tuned for next week’s post, where we’ll introduce another creative way to bring math into everyday life! 🎲📏

See the note below from JiJi. 😁
Have a great weekend!

All after school activities are canceled today, Febrary 13th. All schedules games and practices are postponed or canceled. This excludes any team who has already left for their event.

Weekly Math Fun: Estimation Game! 🤔✨
This week’s activity builds number sense through a fun estimation challenge! Fill a jar with small objects like beans, marbles, or candies, and have your child estimate how many are inside. Then, count together to see how close they were!
💡 Why It Works:
- Strengthens estimation skills and mental math
- Encourages logical reasoning and number sense
- Makes math interactive and engaging
Ways to adapt for older children:
📏 Volume and Measurement: Have students estimate the volume of the jar and predict how many objects would fit if the jar was larger or smaller.
➗ Averaging Estimates: Ask multiple people to estimate and have your child find the mean, median, and mode of the guesses.
📊 Data Representation: Record multiple guesses and compare them using a bar graph or line plot.
🔢 Range and Rounding: Give a range instead of an exact number (e.g., "between 50 and 70") and refine the estimate using rounding strategies.
Stay tuned for next week's activity, where we'll explore another exciting way to practice math at home! 🎉📐
