Essential actions to safeguard your child's digital world:
Read https://wcsdpa.onlinesafetyhub.io/parent/articles/top-tips-to-protect-your-child-s-digital-privacy and learn how to:
Teach your child how to safely download apps & games
Explain "Cookies" (not the delicious kind) to help your child make more informed decisions
Cultivate lifelong online safety habits

It has come to our attention that a student in the district has a confirmed case of pertussis (whooping cough).
Pertussis is a highly contagious disease that is spread through the air when an infected person sneezes or coughs. Pertussis begins with cold symptoms and a cough which becomes much worse over 1-2 weeks. Symptoms usually include a long series of coughs (“coughing fits”) followed by a whooping noise. The cough is often worse at night and cough medicines usually do not help alleviate the cough.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health strongly recommends anyone with symptoms promptly contact your child’s doctor. Please refer to the link provided on our website for more information on pertussis.

Weekly Math Fun: Scavenger Hunt Math! 🔍✨
This week, make math active with a Scavenger Hunt Math Game! Instead of solving problems on paper, kids will search for objects around the house to model math equations.
Math Skills in Action:
Multiplication & Division – Finding and grouping objects reinforces the connection between repeated addition, equal groups, and division as sharing.
Problem-Solving – There’s more than one way to represent a number! Encourage kids to find different combinations that match the same equation.
Pattern Recognition – Seeing numbers arranged in sets helps build an understanding of arrays and factors.
Mental Math – Quickly determining how many objects are needed strengthens number sense and estimation skills.
Try using this game to practice skip counting, fractions (e.g., finding half of a total), or even measurement by collecting objects of different lengths or weights!
Stay tuned for next week’s post, where we’ll introduce another creative way to bring math into everyday life! 🎲📏

See the note below from JiJi. 😁
Have a great weekend!
Attention Parents: The PTO meeting for tonight will be rescheduled due to all after school activities being cancelled! Stay tuned for a reschedule date!
All after school activities are canceled today, Febrary 13th. All schedules games and practices are postponed or canceled. This excludes any team who has already left for their event.

Attention Parents: PTO Meeting tonight, February 13th at 6:00 in the library. We will be planning many spring events including our ice cream social/basket raffle. We hope to see you there!
Weekly Math Fun: Estimation Game! 🤔✨
This week’s activity builds number sense through a fun estimation challenge! Fill a jar with small objects like beans, marbles, or candies, and have your child estimate how many are inside. Then, count together to see how close they were!
💡 Why It Works:
- Strengthens estimation skills and mental math
- Encourages logical reasoning and number sense
- Makes math interactive and engaging
Ways to adapt for older children:
📏 Volume and Measurement: Have students estimate the volume of the jar and predict how many objects would fit if the jar was larger or smaller.
➗ Averaging Estimates: Ask multiple people to estimate and have your child find the mean, median, and mode of the guesses.
📊 Data Representation: Record multiple guesses and compare them using a bar graph or line plot.
🔢 Range and Rounding: Give a range instead of an exact number (e.g., "between 50 and 70") and refine the estimate using rounding strategies.
Stay tuned for next week's activity, where we'll explore another exciting way to practice math at home! 🎉📐

Attention Parents: Just a friendly reminder as the flu season is upon us; if your child is going to be absent from school, excuses need to be turned into the office within three days of the absence to the school office. You may email student excuses to Mrs. Smoulder at smouldere@wcsdpa.org. If you are planning an educational field trip, the educational field trip form can be picked up in the office and needs to be turned into the office no later than one week prior to the scheduled trip. Please keep in mind that during our mandated state PSSA testing, educational field trips will not be approved. The dates for our PSSA testing for grades 3-5 are as follows: ELA: April 22-24, Math: April 28-29, Science: April 30-May 1- Grade 5 only.
